Ferdinand Ries occupies a remarkable place in the history of music. He was a famous friend and pupil of Ludwig van Beethoven and a virtuoso pianist. His extensive oeuvre paved the way from the musical aesthetics of Viennese Classicism to Romanticism. The Piano Trio in C minor op. 143, completed in 1826, consists of two lively, fast movements surrounded by a poetic adagio reminiscent of the most beautiful opera arias of the era. The Grand Trio in F minor WoO 86 is completely different, consisting of four thematically interwoven movements that run through emotions from despair to passion and finally to peace. Since its foundation in 2019, Trio Egmont has combined historical awareness with radical freedom and a fine sense of sound. In summer 2021, the trio won first prize and the Ries special prize at the first international competition "Beethoven in his time" for chamber music on period instruments in Siegburg.
