Jordi Savall, who will be awarded the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize this year, is now adding Bach's St. John Passion to his extensive Baroque catalog. The monumental work from 1724 is one of the highlights of sacred music. Savall brings a rare sensitivity to this interpretation, highlighting the richness of the choruses, the power of the narrative and the beauty of the arias. His grounded approach makes it possible to understand the complexity and modernity of this score, which continues to touch the heart even after three centuries. The recording was made in 2024 as part of a European tour to mark the anniversary of its creation.
