In its historical manifestation in the mid 16th century the madrigal constituted the principal music genre of an era during which a self confident humanity became emancipated from the universal rule of divine law and set out to explore new horizons. Even today, in the 21st century, the madrigal is revealed as a distinctly forward-looking genre, as is clearly evident by the four highly creative pieces on this album, all of which were written specifically for the Neue Vocalsolisten.
