Journeys into the heart of music - The Wanderer Trio
The name is chosen with care: Schubert and German Romantic music were the inspiration for the founding of the Wanderer Trio, and the formation has remained true to its name throughout its 20 years of existence: Curious, sensual and intelligent, the Wanderers roam the music for piano trio from its beginnings with Joseph Haydn to our own time

The Trio Wanderer was founded in 1987 while still a student at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris. The trio quickly achieved its first successes at major international competitions, winning the ARD competition in Munich as early as 1988. It was also in Munich, in the Herkulessaal, that their international concert career began with a performance of all of Beethoven's piano trios. The triumphant success with the Munich audience opened the concert halls of the world: Berlin, Paris, Milan, Washington, Tokyo, Prague, Warsaw and Moscow became the venues of a sensational worldwide career

"Fine-nerved, colorful playing", "rousing and expressive", "grandly superior shaping of form", "temperament and grace ": the international press is overflowing with praise for the Trio Wanderer, whose name contains not only a clear commitment to Franz Schubert but also an ironic allusion to the restlessness of the international concert business

April 2008

…trio Wanderer…approach Schubert not so much as an early Romantic, but rather as a fantastically imaginative and generous Classicist… The sense of sparkling, intimate exchange between the three players is as vital and at times as sophisticated as in Haydn. There's a tremendous sense of fun in the finales of both trios.

CD Review30th April 2016

their personalities seem the most balanced; their playing is the sum of their parts and the recording has a sheen to it that presents this big, flawed, crazy masterpiece to great advantage.

High-voltage late and early Schubert from a trio of Frenchmen beautifully played
