Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) was a gifted piano child when the violinist Ole Bull heard him play and immediately recognized that he was a talent that needed to be nurtured. Although he later wrote a symphony and several other large-scale works, Grieg found his voice primarily through the piano and through the songs without words that he called "Lyric Pieces".

Håkon Austbø's highly regarded Grieg collection, reissued with a recent recording of the four-hand repertoire by Roberto Plano & Paola Del Negro, is the most complete collection of the composer's piano music currently available. And thus also an open window to the soul of this most poetic of Scandinavian Romantics.
