Giovanni Legrenzi was one of the Baroque period’s most important figures, having enjoyed wide success in opera, oratorio, cantata, and chamber music. This release takes as its subject the final three of Legrenzi’s five large instrumental collections, works which tackled common chamber forms and invested them with inventive tonal sense, melodically and rhythmically vigorous themes, and intricate but expressive counterpoint.
