Pianist Vince Guaraldi and Brazilian guitarist Bola Sete met for the first time during a stay at the Trois Couleurs club in San Francisco - a fateful encounter that laid the foundations for a fruitful creative partnership that would eventually combine West Coast jazz with bossa nova and Afro-Brazilian rhythms.
The album "From All Sides", recorded in 1964, was the duo's second collaboration (there were three in total) and is considered one of their most relaxed and joyful works. The album is effortless and escapist, gliding from a feather-light rendition of "The Girl from Ipanema" to the spirited gallop of "Ballad of Poncho Villa".
While Guaraldi is most celebrated for his timeless Peanuts soundtracks, longtime listeners will recognize melodic threads here that later reappeared in this beloved universe. Adaptations of the wistful "Menino Pequeno da Bateria" (later reworked as "Little Drummer Boy") and the light-hearted "Choro" later appeared respectively on "A Charlie Brown Christmas" (1965) and "He's Your Dog, Charlie Brown" (1968).
This reissue of the album is released as part of the Original Jazz Classics Series on 180-gram vinyl, pressed by RTI, with all-analog mastering from the original tapes at Cohearent Audio and a tip-on sleeve that faithfully reproduces the original artwork.
