For composer and pianist Federico Albanese, "The Blue Hour" revolves around the magical mood at the transition between day and night, when euphoria and longing, melancholy and memory merge. Albanese translates these feelings into music. The melodies he finds on the piano for it remain in his memory. They grow into minimalist chamber symphonies, orchestrated with a cello and a few tasteful effects. "The Blue Hour" is a pulsating rhythm of Albanese's chosen home Berlin. With "The Blue Hour" Albanese has found his own sound: More complex and energetic than a typical minimal piano album, with clear melodies and yet full of dreamlike blurriness. All tracks on the album were recorded entirely with analog devices, which further enhances their warm sound. The Blue Hour" was mixed and mastered by Francesco Donadello, who has made a name for himself through his work with Modeselektor, Tom Yorke, Dustin O'Halloran and Moderat.
