The Welsh conductor Owain Arwel Hughes presents a program of Welsh string compositions in first recordings with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. At the same time as Elgar, Vaughan Williams and Tippett, whose works for strings are much better known, Welsh composers were also active in this field. Grace Williams and Arwel Hughes (pupils of Vaughan Williams), Morfydd Owen, William Mathias (pupil of Lennox Berkeley), Paul Mealor (pupil of Mathias) and Christopher Woods form an impressive panorama of Wales' more recent musical history.
