Martin Wåhlberg and his Orkester Nord conclude their series of recordings dedicated to the French opéra-comique with "The Magic Flute". Surprising, yes, but research has shown that Mozart's masterpiece comes directly from the French tradition and from an Enlightenment initiation tale. With this version, which includes all the dialogues, a cast similar to that of the premiere (with Ruth Williams, a 16-year-old Pamina) and previously unpublished fragments (the flute fantasy in The Trial of Silence), the Norwegian conductor proves that it is still possible to surprise with one of the most famous stage works.
