From Baroque to Contemporary Music

Baroque, classics, romantic, modern – these are the musical epochs from which the present collection of chamber music works is drawn. Scored for duo, trio,quartet, quintet and sextet, the pieces demonstrate that chamber music really can give enormous pleasure.It is not only the titles and sub-titles such as “Consort of two parts for Several friends”, “Andante for a musical clock”, Morceau de Salon, Au loin that play their part... no, the pleasure also derives from finding here new music that is of great interest for being relatively unknown, alongside pieces by well-known composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Mendelssohn. Who is familiar for instance with the names of the composers Charles Dieupart, Johann Schenk, Johann Wenzeslaus Kalliwoda or Johann Gottfried Hugo Schuncke? The Czech composer Franz Krommer, who has a whole CD to himself in this collection, will also be known to but a few. So there is enjoyment in charting new territory, discovering chamber music‘s variety of tonal colour and subtlety,and drawing comparisons between British, French, Czech, Danish, Austrian and German music.
