Thuille worked as a composer and teacher of the Münchner Schule, one of the leading musical centres of Europe at the turn of the 20th century. He was a friend of Richard Strauss and their friendship is well documented in Strauss’ letters. These two string quartets were written when Thuille was a student. This CD casts a new light on a forgotten composer.
