Highly-rated Austrian period instrument ensemble the Fortepiano Trio perform four rarely heard sonatas by the Bohemian composer Adalbert Gyrowetz (1763-1850), perhaps the longest-lived composer of his time. A great admirer of the music of Joseph Haydn, Gyrowetz’s own music has been sadly neglected over the years since it was written.Next year marks the 250th anniversary of Adalbert Gyrowetz’s birth. Gyrowetz is considered by many to be one of the forgotten “greats” of the Viennese classical period and has gone down in musical history as the author of an autobiography regarded as one of the most valuable contemporary accounts of the late 18th century. He was a prolific composer writing over 30 operas, 60 symphonies, and a substantial number of chamber works. As the group’s name would suggest the Fortepiano Trio, comprising keyboard player Miriam Altmann, violinist Julia Huber, and cellist Anja Enderle, perform on period instruments. The trio was formed in 1987 and specialises in the interpretation of music from the latter part of the 18th century. In recent years they have appeared at concerts and festivals in Germany, Austria, and Luxembourg, and produced radio broadcasts and recordings for SWR, WDR, and Radio Bremen.
