"Be Still My Heart" presents works by two little-known Viennese composers. Swiss-born Robert Gund (1865-1927), a highly respected pianist, teacher and composer in Vienna, whose works have since been forgotten, and his younger colleague Wilhelm Grosz (1894-1939), who was writing very successful songs for the cinema in Berlin at the time of Gund's death. Grosz emigrated first to England in 1934 and then to the United States in 1939, where his music was influenced by both post-romanticism and jazz. This program, conceived and performed by Christian Immler and Helmut Deutsch, both masters of German song, contains many songs that were recorded for the first time. Grosz's songs, written in England and the USA, have inspired numerous cover versions by 20th century music greats such as Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and the Beatles.
