10 CD box set featuring ten original albums from the leading French violinist Christian Ferras, including recordings with violinist Yehudi Menuhin and cellist Paul Tortelier and rarely heard French sonatas.He was the radiant rising star among Europe's violinists in the mid-20th century. His recordings were awarded the Grand Prix du Disque nine times. Christian Ferras, born in Nice on June 17, 1933, won first prizes at the Conservatoire, as well as during his continued studies in Paris. Further awards followed in other European competitions. In 1947 Ferras met the Romanian violinist and composer George Enescu, who was to become his mentor and whose knowledge and experience had already benefited Yehudi Menuhin.The recordings on this set were made between 1953 and 1962 and sees Ferras alongside the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and conductors such as Sir Malcolm Sargent, Karl Münchinger, Paul Kletzki and Constantin Silvestri.
