[On the original Marco Polo release] This silly movie brought all of your favourite 1930s and '40s movie monsters – Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Wolfman – together for the first time. … It featured lots of screaming and running around, and needed all the musical help it could get. Hans Salter, assisted by exiled German composer Paul Dessau, dressed the whole thing up in a terrific score that lacks only the last element of real symphonic continuity. … Stromberg and his Moscow forces seem to enjoy the show, and they are vividly recorded.
