Zygmunt Noskowski, the influential Polish conductor and composer, is better known for his role as a teacher and mentor to later celebrities such as Karol Szymanowski and Mieczyslaw Karlowicz - and for his association with Stanislaw Moniuszko - than for his own compositions. But for much of the 19th century he was Poland's leading exponent of modern music, and his works are a central part of the Polish tradition. Following the Capriccio recordings of his symphonies, this album presents some of his string quartets and once again shows us a sonorous picture book of Polish Romanticism.
Founded in 2007, the Meccore String Quartet is known throughout Europe and beyond. It has won numerous prizes, also for its recordings, for example of Piotr Tchaikovsky's and Edvard Grieg's string quartets.
