Several major composers have turned to the Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm for their inspiration, and this 10-CD set includes six complete opera recordings made during the period 1952-1958 by four of them. The operas are Humperdinck's ever-popular Hansel and Gretel, as well as his Königskinder (The King's Children), Rossini's La Cenerentola (Cinderella), two stage works by Carl Orff - Die Monde (The Moon) and Die Kluge (The Wise Woman) - and Bartók's Duke Bluebeard's Castle.Appearing in the set are giants of the conductor's rostrum such as Herbert von Karajan, Ernest Ansermet, and Ferenc Fricsay as well as leading singers of the time, including Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Peter Anders, Hermann Prey, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Sesto Bruscantini and Hans Hotter.
