Conductor Robert Trevino's second album of orchestral works by Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936), recorded together with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, contains Respighi's powerful orchestral masterpiece, the "Sinfonia Drammatica". Respighi's "Sinfonia Drammatica" is a large-scale symphony inspired by Strauss with a playing time of more than 60 minutes. Various critics have pointed out similarities with César Franck's Symphony in D minor, particularly in terms of its cyclical structure, while echoes of Richard Strauss and Rimsky-Korsakov can be heard repeatedly throughout the piece, not only in the orchestral music but also in the contours of some of the melodic lines. And although Wagner is not generally regarded as one of Respighi's main sources of inspiration, the German composer's influence is palpable.
