"Jóhann Jóhannsson: Piano Works", recorded by pianist Alice Sara Ott, is a selection of the late Icelandic composer's most famous works - reinterpreted for solo piano. These world premiere recordings are hauntingly beautiful interpretations that perfectly capture the essence of Jóhannsson's music.
This tribute to one of Hollywood's most visionary and award-winning composers comprises 30 pieces. The collection includes music from his most iconic film scores such as The Theory of Everything and Personal Effects, as well as from his studio albums such as Orphée and Englabörn.
Ott, known for her poetic playing and versatility, creates her own new sound world here. As she never had the opportunity to meet Jóhannsson in person, she spent the preparation time for the recordings with some of his companions. Among them was Grammy-nominated producer and sound engineer Bergur Þórisson, who produced the album in his studio in Reykjavík. The insights she gained from these conversations deepened her love for Jóhannsson's music. "His musical language has a very special intimacy and urgency," she says. "It speaks to exactly what people are longing for in today's noisy and sometimes very dissonant world."
