With its moving story and wonderful happy ending, the fairy tale of Cinderella has all the ingredients of a perfect ballet subject. Zurich choreographer Heinz Spoerli has achieved a great success with his transposition of the material into the world of ballet. Cinderella, reduced to a maid by her wicked stepmother, becomes a degraded prima ballerina who must serve her two constantly quarrelling stepsisters - inimitably comical in their clumsiness, they are portrayed by two dancers. The prince is a famous dancer who recognizes in Cinderella his ideal partner and eventually frees her from her bondage. Under the direction of the Russian master conductor Vladimir Fedoseyev, this production is also an exquisite musical delight.
