As a composer, Liszt's pupil and piano virtuoso Hans Bronsart von Schellendorf remained a marginal figure until recently. During his lifetime, however, Franz Liszt was enthusiastic about Bronsart's compositional work: 'Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sending it [the score] to me. I think very highly of you, both as a character and as a musician'. Even a cursory listen reveals Bronsart's flair for ambitious dimensions and extroverted musical language. The music is rich in lyricism and dramatic-emotional access and gives the soloist ample opportunity for brilliant development without drowning out the power and precision of Bronsart's compositional rhetoric. Hans von Bülow, another Liszt pupil, played the work in numerous concerts from 1870 onwards. When he also performed the concerto abroad under Charles Hallé in Manchester in 1877, the work had indeed gained a place in the repertoire for a short time. In this recording, Eugene Tzigane conducts the Staatskapelle Weimar. Oliver Triendl, who can already look back on an extensive discography of around 150 CD recordings and has played with many international orchestras as well as chamber music ensembles, can be heard on the piano. The internationally successful violinist Nina Karmon will also be performing, as will cellist Wen-Sinn Yang.
