The soloist, chamber musician and pedagogue Xavier Phillips has persued a career as a cellist in the world’s concert hall in the past twenty-five years. In decembre 2014, he is the soloist for the Shostakovich’s Cello Concert no. 1, and in january 2016, he plays in the orchestra for the 5th Symphony.These two works constitute a homage both to the composer and to Mstislav Rostropovich, creator and dedicatee of the two cello concertos, who was Xavier Phillips’s mentor.« My memories are of an immensely gifted pedagogue, whose advice could be very diverse in nature.
