Christian Thielemann conducts the Vienna Philharmonic's unmistakable New Year's Concert for the second time - once again there are a number of premieres. And indeed, in keeping with the commemorative year 2024, a rare Bruckner trouvaille has also been included in the program.
No other concert is as eagerly awaited around the world as the annual New Year's Concert from Vienna. This year, the mega classical music event will be broadcast in over 90 countries and watched by several million people. Christian Thielemann, Chief Conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden and future successor to Daniel Barenboim at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, will conduct the 2024 New Year's Concert. Thielemann has had close musical ties with the Vienna Philharmonic since 2000 and conducted one of its New Year's concerts for the first time in 2019.
He also regularly conducts the orchestra in subscription concerts at the Vienna Musikverein, at the Salzburg Festival and on tours in Japan, China, Europe and the USA. Following the benchmark recording of a joint cycle of all Beethoven symphonies, the Vienna Philharmonic and Christian Thielemann began work on a complete recording of Anton Bruckner's symphonies during the pandemic, which was released by Sony Classical in October 2023.
