In 1674, Lully and Quinault presented a new collaborative work: Alceste, a tragédie en musique that combined the dramatic power of the Greek myth from which it was inspired with the musical richness of the French Baroque. Although Lully and Quinault were criticized by their rivals, the opera delighted the court of Louis XIV and promoted the new genre of the tragédie en musique. Stéphane Fuget explores this world in which love, sacrifice and duty intertwine, supported by magnificent arias and choruses of unimagined expressiveness, impressively performed by Les Epopées and the Chœur de l'Opéra Royal.
