Iskandar Widjajaja does not correspond at all to the picture of a musician in the classical music scene. As a representative of a new Generation, it's almost impossible to put him in genre drawers to stick. He connects worlds: as soloist with international top-class orchestras - from the German Symphony Orchestra- Orchestra Berlin on the Munich, Warsaw and Shanghai Philharmonic up to the Hong Kong Sinfonietta -, but also at mass media events like Miss World or Miss Earth, the Milan EXPO or the Paris Fashion Week. He has long been a TV star in East Asia with regular Television appearances, commercial advertising contracts and trending topic status on Twitter. With his new Project Mercy presents Iskandar Vidyajaja with a broad musical Spectrum, thematically densely structured. A balance sheet of his work to date and starting point of a new stage of life.
At the beginning of Mercy is the composition "River Flows in You" by South Korean pianist Yiruma. The British Composer Max Richter, who is continuously working in the Electronics, Ambient and Filmcore- Scenery works, controls the title track, "Mercy." A quiet, almost meditative Work for piano and violin, framed by congenial Blocks with works by Arvo Pärt and J. S. Bach.
"This project allowed me to let my imagination run wild and previous experiments from the concert framework in the recording studio. I was thinking, what I would like to hear on record myself and also the Reaction of the audience involved." Longtime Friends and companions like the Italian Electronic Music- Artist Giordano Franchetti, who created a sound synthesis with NASA Space Sounds, or the pianist Friedrich Wengler, whom Widjaja has known since schooldays, accompany him on his new album. The biggest challenge the piece "Eneril" (after Bach's "Erbarme Dich"), in which the Mongolian singer Urna Chahar- Tugchi, raised in a family of shepherds in the grasslands of the Ordos, who took over the singing. "A daring attempt, because Urna takes a completely different approach to the classical And doesn't work with musical notation." The result is a track that is exactly like Iskandar Vidyaja: wandering between the worlds, but not homeless, but at home everywhere. The release of Mercy on the Berlin label Neue Master is the cornerstone for an international concert tour in late summer and autumn 2018.
CHRISTOPH ESCHENBACH: "An artist by his skills, but especially by his in the best Senses idiosyncratic and profoundly convincing musical Statement impressed: Iskandar Vassya."
