Among Johann Sebastian Bach’s organ chorales, there are some whose form is more suggestive of a sumptuous accompaniment than of a solo work.
Their true magnificence remains somehow virtual and seems to require the addition of a choir in order to expand to the fullest extent.
This is particularly true of the long chorale Herr Gott, dich loben wir BWV 725, a Lutheran version of the Latin Te Deum.
