Born in 1957, Angelin Preljocaj has already created 35 works in the 26 years of his career to date, making him the most prolific choreographer of his generation. in 2010, Siddharta, the fourth work by the artist who is regarded as idiosyncratic, was performed for the Ballet de l'Opéra at the Opéra Bastille. The ballet describes in 16 images the life of Siddharta, the founder of Buddhism. In search of enlightenment, he embarks on a long journey and must overcome several obstacles. Nicolas Le Riche embodies Siddharta, who at the moment of enlightenment assumes the pose of the Buddha radiating from within. He is assisted by Aurélie Dupont as the figure of enlightenment, Alice Renavand as his wife and Muriel Zusperreguy as the romantic peasant girl SujataFor the first time, the Paris Opéra collaborated with the young French composer Bruno Mantovani, who wrote his first large-scale ballet music for this work.
