Werner Heinrich Schmitt, born in Mannheim in 1961, began playing the piano as a child and was soon composing as well. Since then, he has earned his living as a pianist and composes when time permits. The present recordings reveal a composer of considerable substance, particularly in the two moving and dignified song cycles that frame this album. varied chamber and piano pieces. Some are imbued with joy and others with sadness, but they all speak a musical language that aims to speak directly to the listener. Werner Heinrich Schmitt has toured as a pianist through Italy, England, France, Brazil and in 2016 to Moscow, Russia, and Hanoi, Vietnam, sometimes performing his own compositions. His works have been performed by, among others, bass-baritone Thomas Jesatko, mezzo-soprano
Mezzo-soprano Anke Vondung and well-known German orchestras
