In a striking new disc the lens is turned on music written by composers who held important positions at one of the most important landmarks in Venice, St. Mark’s Basilica. The works span 200 years and demonstrate all the attendant changes in musical vernacular over that period. Performances on this disc are mindful of the Venetian style and its inherent dependence on the space, beautifully highlighting the unique contributions of St. Mark’s architecture and particular acoustic to the music created there.
