Italian born composer Giuseppe Sarti (1729-1802) travelled to Russia in 1784 at the invitation of Catherine ll. He spent more than 16 years as director of music for Grigory Potemkin’s choir for whom he wrote some of his most enduring choral works including the stunning Miserere presented on this CD.
