A requiem for the living
In contrast to the sometimes exaggerated view of the Last Judgement in the masses for the dead according to the Roman rite, Brahms created a work for the consolation of "those who suffer". After more than ten years of being associated with a German - and humanistic - Requiem, the performers carefully honed every bar of this dense composition for this album in order to achieve an astonishing kind of polyphonic transparency and thus go beyond the universality of the message.
