This programme was chosen to showcase the outstanding harpsichord built by Louis Denis in 1658. All the pieces date from the period in which the instrument was made, and serve as illustrations of the then current aesthetic, a refined combination of passion and poetry. Louis Couperin and Froberger both encountered harpsichords similar to this one in Paris, and it is not impossible to imagine that they played this instrument.
