Due to its playability, affordability and ease of mass production, the euphonium played a key role in the brass band movement of the mid-19th century. The historical lack of original compositions for euphonium was compensated by a multitude of transcriptions. "Virtuoso" picks up on this legacy and celebrates the unique depth and versatility of the instrument. Renowned virtuoso David Childs has teamed up with the legendary Black Dyke Band to create a collection of classic and contemporary repertoire ranging from well-loved traditional tunes to dazzling showpieces. The Black Dyke Band enjoys the highest standing in the worldwide brass band community. Under its Musical Director Nicholas Childs, it has continued to win major competitions and was crowned British Open Champion for the 30th time in 2014.
