Mozart's Requiem from the Felsenreitschule SalzburgThis production was without question one of the highlights of the 2017 Salzburg Mozart Week: the noble horses and riders of the Academy of Versailles danced to Wolfang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem at the Felsenreitschule. French horse choreographer Bartabas put Mozart's mass into a new theatrical context based on the fact that in many cultures the souls of the deceased are accompanied by horses into the realm of the dead. He created not only an impressive equestrian choreography, but in the interplay between people, animals and music, a moving parable on the universal interconnectedness of all existenceMarc Minkowski, himself a passionate horse lover, fulfilled his heart's desire with this production. He conducts the Musiciens du Louvres, the Salzburg Bach Choir and the excellent quartet of soloists - Elisabeth Kulman, Julien Behr and Charles Dekeyser, led by star soprano Genia KühmaierThe Kronenzeitung headlined euphorically, "A Requiem for all the senses!"
