Spes Nostra is a set of viols led by Jerome Hantai, and composed of soloists who have developed strong musical and friendly ties. It has already made an anthology of works by John Jenkins, and offers us in this fifth centenary of the death of William Shakespeare, a new album dedicated to the music of Elizabethan composers and the first of them, William Byrd. The first part of this program offers an anthology of music for viol consort composed during the reign of Elizabeth I. William Byrd (1540-1623), obviously holds a unique place and profoundly influenced both his contemporaries and generations of composers in England. The second part is dedicated precisely to those musicians who were able to continue the tradition of the viol consort from England, while making it evolve stylistically, especially under the influence of the Italian madrigal.
