Born in Georgia in 1930 and later raised in Philadelphia, tenor saxophonist HANK MOBLEY was as highly regarded during his lifetime as Sonny Rollins or John Coltrane. Although rather undervalued at the time of its release, his 1967 album "High Voltage" is considered a true classic. Only very rarely has MOBLEY been as versatile and talented on a single album as he is here. Whether funk, modal jazz, bossa nova or ballad - MOBLEY works with maximum virtuosity and aplomb in every context. He is joined by Blue Mitchell (trumpet), Jackie McLean (alto saxophone), Bob Cranshaw (bass) and Billy Higgins (drums), a team of well-seasoned Blue Note session musicians, reinforced here for the first time by the young piano talent John Hicks. High Voltage" thus proves to be a Blue Note treasure well worth discovering.
