This work is about a situation that everyone knows: you know what lies ahead, but you can't do anything about it, you can feel the impending doom, but you are not heard. The opera "Cassandra" by Bernard Foccroulle describes precisely this situation. Two main characters from different eras are like prophets in their time, harbingers of the world to come. One is Cassandra, daughter of King Priam of Troy: she warns of the disaster that threatens her people during the Trojan War. Her warnings go unheeded, and the world as it was then known comes to an end. Sandra, a young climatologist and PhD student from our present day, has turned to comedy as a language with which she hopes to communicate her research on climate change and global warming - in vain. Finally, the protagonists meet: Cassandra from antiquity and Sandra, who struggles with the complexity of the present. Perhaps it will be Cassandra who makes Sandra laugh ...Bernard Foccroulle is a Belgian composer, organist and opera director; his opera Cassandra celebrated its world premiere in September 2023.
