Le Fruit du silence
Mara Dobresco (piano)
- Beethoven: Piano Sonata No. 30 in E major, Op. 109
- Beethoven: Piano Sonata No. 31 in A flat major, Op. 110
- Hersant: Benedictus
- Strasnoy: Tombeau de Monjeau
- Vasks: Le Fruit de Silence
The Franco-Romanian pianist Mara Dobresco invites us towards the light through silence: “Silence of the arts during the pandemic, silence experienced as a musician, but also as a being, silence that brings us back to ourselves, to our spirituality, to our inner world.”
It is a tribute to Beethoven, a musician reduced to silence and yet capable of extracting marvels from it, giving a glimpse of a ‘beyond’ through his last works.
This quest for spirituality is reflected in the two creations by composers Philippe Hersant and Oscar Strasnoy, as well as in ‘The Fruit of Silence’ by Pēteris Vasks, a work inspired by an anaphora of Mother Teresa.
The new album of the Romanian-French pianist Mara Dobresco leads through silence to light
"Silence of the arts during the pandemic, lived silence as a musician or simply as a human being, silence that brings us back to ourselves, to our spirituality, to our inner world." With the two sonatas op. 109 & 110, this is a tribute to Beethoven, who was reduced to silence due to his hearing condition, yet able to elicit wonders from that silence. Two premiere recordings of works by Philippe Hersant and Oscar Strasnoy, as well as the piano quintet "The Fruit of Silence" by Pēteris Vasks, based on a prayer for peace by Mother Teresa, complete the harmonious program.
