The curious name Spunicunifait refers to a mysterious three-part word that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote in a letter to his cousin Maria Anna Thekla Mozart. Spuni: "spun" or "woven" / Cuni: "coney" or "rabbit" and fait "made" - i.e. something woven from rabbit fur, like the scarf worn by his beloved cousin Basle in a self-portrait. Behind the ensemble Spunicunifait is a group of five musicians, all of whom have extensive experience in chamber music and in renowned orchestras such as the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. They founded this ensemble in order to devote themselves to the in-depth study and performance of Mozart's six string quintets on period instruments.
