Like his other operas, Tosca, Puccini's fifth opera and today an absolute standard work, initially provoked contradictory reactions from audiences and critics: audiences were immediately enthusiastic, critics had reservations. An opera of strong emotions, portrayed with the utmost immediacy and irresistible power. The recording was made at the Festival Puccini, Torre del Lago Puccini, in August 2007.
