Virtuosity is derived from the Latin "virtus" (virtue, courage), a set of moral qualities before it developed into something purely technical. Using works by Brahms, Mozart and Liszt, Michel Dalberto takes us on an extended journey to a better understanding of virtuosity. For Michel Dalberto, "it is precisely the old spirit of virtuosity that interests me and is the subject of this album. To be honest, the idea for such a concert came to me after a conversation with my Japanese agent. We talked about the audience's attraction to spectacular virtuosity. I also thought of a book that had impressed me when it was published. It had been published thirty years ago: "Petit traite des grandes vertus" (Little Treatise on the Great Virtues) by the philosopher Andre Comte-Sponville. This gave me the desire to present this eulogy to the sources of virtuosity."
