Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s works are among the most frequently played worldwide. To commemorate his 175th birthday this collection of 10 CDs documents all of his symphonies as well as the major concertos, symphonic poems, and overtures. It also includes the legendary stereo version of his “1812” overture conducted by Antal Dorati with its famous cannon shots in the explosive finale.
Many of the 20th century‘s most prominent conductors are represented in this 10-CD box including Wilhelm Furtwängler, ArturoToscanini, Herbert von Karajan, Georg Solti, Lorin Maazel, Rafael Kubelik, Leopold Stokowski, Kiril Kondrashin, and Yevgeny Mravinsky. The recordings in the set also feature legendary soloists like Van Cliburn, Shura Cherkassky, Isaac Stern and Mstislav Rostropovich.
