The cantata "Tombeau pour Aliénor" by Thierry Escaich, which premiered in 2023, was commissioned by the Ensemble Amarillis. It is based on a poem by Olivier Py and focuses on the voice of Eleanor of Aquitaine (1122-1204), who was twice queen - queen of France through her marriage to Louis VII and of England through her second marriage to Henry II. The seven lyrical poems and three instrumental interludes with different sound combinations, together with pieces by Purcell, form a sensitive fresco that expresses the life and moods of the ruler, her thoughts and longings.
