Her album and photography project Wænde is a personal recollection of her childhood in the prefabricated housing estate Marzahn-Hellersdorf, East Berlin during the opaque 1980s and 1990s: "Growing up in the last decade of the former GDR, we try to process our memories, impressions and feelings of this hybrid time in our releases," say CEEYS.

Driven by the deeply rooted need for improvisation, CEEYS bring the cello and piano together with original instruments from the GDR era. These include restored keyboard instruments and rhythm boxes, many of which were originally manufactured between the 1950s and 1980s in state-owned or former Soviet companies. To further deepen this sense of special combinations, these relics are often edited or joined together with today's echoes, tremolos and filters to create once again a meeting of past and present.

CEEYS are the Berlin-born and Potsdam-based brothers Sebastian and Daniel Selke, a cello-piano duo with a fascinating blend of experimental but accessible minimalism between avant-garde and pop, combining elements of jazz, ambient and classical chamber music.

"Hybrid" is a word that has always played an important role in the CEEYS vocabulary. However, its use is not limited to the way in which cellist Sebastian Selke and pianist Daniel Selke combine their two instruments. Like the name of the duo, which brings together cello and keys, it reflects their overarching aesthetics, in which all those levels flow that have shaped them as musicians.
