Aya Hamada (piano)
After her highly acclaimed recording of the second part of Johann Sebastian Bach's Four Clavier Exercises, harpsichordist Aya Hamada now turns to the fourth part: the Goldberg Variations. Hamada has chosen to play this pinnacle of variation art on an extraordinary instrument. The harpsichord by Johannes Ruckers from 1624 belongs to the Musée Unterlinden in Colmar. In order to adapt it to the demanding harpsichord scores of Couperin or Bach, it underwent several modifications. The instrument has a rich tonal palette: dark in the bass, crystal clear in the treble, and with its special timbre now contributes to the large Goldberg discography.
