Franz Schubert (1797-1828) is arguably the most important link between Viennese Classical Classical and Romantic eras. Despite his early death, he left behind an astonishingly extensive oeuvre. Starting from the basic classical framework Schubert experimented again and again with new forms and unusual instrumentations in his chamber music Instrumentations. In the last years of his life, completely unnoticed by his contemporaries, he composed completely unnoticed by his contemporaries, some of his most successful and today most popular works were composed. As radical as anyone before Schubert (and hardly anyone after him), he devoted himself in his music to the extremes of human feeling to the extremes of human feeling: fear, gloom, suffering, joy, happiness.

The chamber music works collected on this 6-CD box set were composed between 1824 and 1818 were composed between 1824 and 1828: the piano trios No. 1 in B flat major (D 898) and No. 2 in E-flat major (D 929), the Notturno in E-flat major (D 897), the Quartettatz in C minor (D 703), the string quartets No. 13 in A minor ("Rosamunde Quartet," D 804) and No. 14 in D minor ("Death and the Maiden," D 810), the String Quintet in C major (D 956) and the Octet in F major (D 803). The highly praised recordings compiled here With the Amsterdam Piano Trio, the Brandis Quartet, and the Berlin Philharmonic Philharmonic Octet were made between 1995 and 2009.
