Wikipedia carefully speaks of a "geographical and cultural region," but Kurdistan, the land of the Kurds, really exists and spans four countries: Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria. With the founding of the Nishtiman Project (Nishtiman means homeland in Kurdish) in 2013, Hussein Zahawy wanted to bring the entire musical identity of Kurdistan to the ear, obviously oriental and yet not Arabic, Persian or Turkish
