JIMMY SMITH was an extremely productive musician throughout his life - as evidenced not least by his high output of top-class albums for Blue Note. "The Sounds Of Jimmy Smith" from 1957 is the result of a three-day recording marathon. This time, however, the focus is not on blues and gospel, but on the revival of standards such as "All The Things You Are" or "Zing Went The Strings Of Love" in an exciting Hammond sound. SMITH is mostly accompanied by Eddie McFadden (guitar) and Donald Bailey (drums), on two tracks Art Blakey can be heard instead of Bailey. The CD re-release of "The Sounds Of Jimmy Smith" contains the three bonus tracks "First Night Blues", "Cherokee" and "The Third Day".
