In the last month of the Centenary celebrations Brilliant Classics presents a tribute to Benjamin Britten, one of the leading 20‐th century British composers.
This set contains the complete music for cello solo, cello and piano and offers a world premiere, the cello sonata in A major, a charming piece in Schubertian style, written by the 13‐year old Benjamin.
Britten’s friendship with the great Russian cellist Mstslav Rostropovich inspired him to write these masterpieces for the cello: the three suites for cello solo, a 20‐th century tribute to Bach’s solo suites, and the sonata for cello and piano, a dark, dramatic work, brimming with passion and vitality.
Alexander Ivashkin is considered a “prodigious cellist” by Rostropovich himself, a better recommendation is hardly imaginable.
New recordings, liner notes written by the artist.
